TOEFL PREPARATION : SAMPLE QUESTIONS

PART A :  
1. Vocabulary word :
You hear :
Woman :How do you like your history class?
Man     : I like it; the teacher is terrific

Question :
What does the man mean ?
(A) The teacher is excellent
(B) The teacher thinks the new history book is great
(C) He likes the subject, but he doesn't like the teacher
(D) He thinks the teacher is terrible

The answer is (A). The testing point in this question is the word  "terrific", which is similar in meaning to "excellent"

2. Idioms /Phrase

You hear :
Man : Didi you hear that Ellen just got hired as the new director?
Woman : Yes. Her effort really paid off

What does the woman mean?   
(A) Ellen will get paid more as a director
(B) Ellen's hard work had a positive result
